IMPAC-T International Symposium
The IMPAC-T International Symposium on “Coping with Climate Change Effects by Science and Technology” took place at Faculty of Engineering , Kasetsart University , Bangkok, Thailand , 6-7 March 2014 ,
This Symposium which was part of research project “Integrated Study Project on Hydro-Meteorological Prediction and Adaptation to Climate Change in Thailand” was designed to provide an opportunity of IMPAC-T researchers to dissiminate final research products to public and give guidance to future activities and to help incorporate the flood pulse concept into policy and management. Another objective was to raise awareness of the critical issues associated with water resource management in Chao Phraya river basin. The symposium familiarized participants with the effect of climate change and principles of integrated water related information system with special focus on hydrological model developments in the context of augmenting water security against the backdrop of the anticipated negative consequences of climate change.
About 200 participants were drawn from a wide range of interest groups across Thailand representing both public and private sectors. Beside Thai and Japanese IMPAC-T researchers , technical resource persons came from ASEAN countries such as Indonesia , Vietnam, Laos , Philliphine.
Opening Ceremony of IMPAC-T Climate Change Data Center
Since 2009, Thai and Japanese Researchers have been working on how to capture the climate change and how to adapt to its negative effects under IMPAC-T Project, sponsored by JICA and JST.At the completion of the project, IMPAC-T want to share the final product, Integrated Water Related Information System, where all observed hydro-meteorological data, simulation models and forcing data for future climate change prediction and other research outputs are all compiled.
The official opening ceremony of Climate Change Data Center was held on 24 January 2014 by Assoc.Prof. Vudtechai Kapilakanchana, President, Kasetsart University and Mr. Shuichi Ikeda, Chief Representative, JICA Thailand Office. The Data Center was located on 9th floor of Building #9 , Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University.
